    suction is most quickly and easily obtained by the use of vulcanite, we consider its re- placement by a sterilizable material essen- tial to health, even at the cost of some initial patience. The sterilizer mentioned above is so con- structed that any kind of denture can be rendered aseptic, i.e., germ-free, in a few minutes. After brushing, the tooth-brush and any artificial teeth worn should be sterilized. The above directions apply in a general way to normal mouths, but in practice we prescribe a tooth-brush, powder, and mouth-wash to suit the special requirements of each patient. In this connection the alkalinity or acidity of the saliva should be noted, for if acidity of the saliva be not corrected by a suitable mouth-wash a very potent predisposing cause of decay has been overlooked.
