Lettering
The explosion of the powder magazine at Buluwayo: tending the injured ... drawn by C. J. Staniland R. I. from a sketch by our special artist. C. E. Fripp. C. J. Staniland. C. Hentschel sc.
Lettering continues with text describing the episode: "The powder magazine at Buluwayo blew up on October 2. Five whites were killed and thirteen were seriously injured. Ten Kaffirs camping in the neighbourhood were crushed to death by huge fragments of rock falling on them, and twenty-two were shockingly mangled. The houses were badly shaken, and many windows were blown out. All the able bodied population headed by Lord Grey and Sir Frederick Carrington, assisted in caring for the injured. The Gaol and Market Hall were converted into temporary hospitals."
