The birth and death returns of the chief cities may be brief] noted on as follows — Bombay.—Population 1,148,815. 25,046 births were registere equal to a birth-rate of 21 *80 as compared with 23*907 and 20* 81 i the previous year. The registered deaths amounted to 27,335 s against 26,306 in 1929. The death-rate per mille of population ws 23*79 against 22*90 in 1929. The number of infantile deaths W2 7,472 equal to a ratio of 298*33 per 1,000 registered births as again* a rate of 300*66 in 1929. The chief causes of death shown i the returns were small-pox, respiratory diseases and all other cause Pneumonia was as usual more prevalent in the city during the yea under report. Cholera caused 40 deaths, Plague 20, while Influent was responsible for 75 deaths. Ahmedabad.—Population 270 * 899.
