Yet, how many of this class trust to bottles, lotions, salves, healing saw or ointment, to heal a superficial sore, for example, which might after all be cured by cleanliness alone; and it is to be feared that such applications have not only been ineffectual, but frequently have increased the former mischief. Many do not think it necessary to attend to this, and nurses are among the number. Cleanliness, though it will not of itself heal every sore, will at all events always greatly aid, while, on tlie other hand, slovenly habits must retard the recovery, and entail more misery and suffering.
