As this subject, however, belongs rather to the in¬ quiry respecting the structure of nerve in general, I shall not proceed further with it at present, espe¬ cially as the above opinion differs somewhat from that of Reil, who has probably given more atten¬ tion to this point*® On the Termination of the Retina anteriorly, the canal of Petit, and the Ciliary Processes of the Vitreous Humour. In descriptions of the anatomy of the eye there is no part of the subject upon which there has been so much diversity of opinion as upon the question of the termination of the retina anteriorly. Some maintain that the retina, that is both its medullary and vascular layer, terminates at that part of the vi¬ treous humour where the ciliary processes begin to adhere t; others, that it is continued to the lenst; others, that it is the vascular layer only which ex¬ tends so far§ ; and others again, that the vascular * Reil.
