The new Cornmrttee will consist of Specialists in the fields necessary to deal with each individual probic*!! and to pr evxo.it 'ov-er-lappin.g ’ by the Statutory and Vc.i’-’.ntciry Services » The Committee meetings were dj .scoAitxiiued for two reasons (a) Dhe support given had enabled families to stand vn thezr own feet and (b) recent cases referred were those with a housing problem which could be dealt with by, and came within the jurisdiction of, the Housing Manager» The Co-Ordinating Committee for the Welfare of the Aged again had an active year and the ci'eation of Committees for 'Policy* and 'Visiting* have added to the efficiency and scope of the work carried out. The Policy Committee has taken the first active seeps towards the provision of a Day Centre and, with the co operation of the teaching staff. Social Service Gi oup-s ]iave been formed in two schools. These Gi'oups of students h.ave been carrying oxit gardening and internal decoration work (under supervision) for the elderly. The Visiting Committee has, with the assistance of the Social Service Groups, delivered 500 cards to elderly 2:)eop.le giving information about the various voluntary services which can be given, i«e =, visiting, gardening, decorating, laundry, chiropody, etc. If any service is needed, the cards to be returned to the Honorary Secretary of the Co-Ordinating Committee. At the end of the year, the demand had become so heavy that additional vciuntery workers ivers urgently required and it was decided to post- pone the delivery of further cards until the required services had been organised. In conjunction with the Co-Ordinating Committee for the Welfare of the Aged, the Voluntary Laundry was continued very successfully under the organisation of Mrs G. Taylor.
