The plates in the present vol are misnumbered, and there are only 27. Vicaire gives 28. All the previous editions contained 27 only. Old half calf. Engraved title, with por- trait of Carraca and 80 fine etchings of costumes of street sellers. Several are of gastronomic in- terest, the trifle seller, pastry cook, cook, cheese- monger, dish-washer; there is an engraving of a quack dentist, postman, etc. Very fine copy. 60 Fashion Plates. 84 Fashion Plates (Small Folio size), and portraits of the French Royal Family, including 9 similar Italian Fashion Plates. They date between 1684 and 1694, and were chiefly executed by N. Arnoult and R.B. The best edition of the most famous early book on costume. This (second) edition contains the American cos- tumes (20 plates) at the end. 507 pages, with a full-page woodcut of a costume on each.
