An interesting history of the Franciscans which was reprinted at Amsterdam in 1734. GERMANY. 114 Vineent (P.) The Lamentation of Ger- many, wherein as in a Glasse we may behold her miserable condition...composed by an eye-witnesse thereof. London, E.G. for John Rothwell, 1638 17s 6d 8vo. Old boards, worn. 11 plates, with 31 cuts, representing tortures inflicted by the German soldiers on innocent citizens. One plate has a cut torn out and the margins are closely cut. Very rare. GREECE. 115 Paulmier (Jacques, de Gyrentemesnil) Greaciae Antiquae Descriptio. Leiden, D. a Graesbeeck, 1678 21s Thick 4to. Old calf. With arms of Palmerius impressed in gold on covers. One of the best descriptions of ancient Greece extant, written by the son of the famous physician Palmerius. He spent 20 years working on it, but died before its publication. His friend, Etienne Morris, pub- lished it after his death, adding a life of the author. Original calf. This is really a transla- tion of Leon of Modena’s “Historia dei Riti Ebraici.’”” Numerous minutely written annota- tions. This second edition, nearly as rare as the first, contains a dedicatory letter to Bossuet by de Frémont d’Ablancourt and several additions not present in the first. The author, born 1638, died 1721, was a French Orientalist. All his works are very rare. HERALDRY. 120 Clairambau.
