First collected edition of De Graaf’s work. ‘‘ Regner de Graaf demonstrated ovulation anatomically...he described the tubular structure of the testis. He also stucied the functions of the pancreas, and made an artificial biliary fistula. His name is preserved in the ‘‘ Graafian follicle.” —Power-Thompson. According to Deschamps, it is the only book printed at Ochsenfurt in the province of Nurzburg. First edition of an important work by one of the greatest French 16th century sur- geons, the teacher and inspirer of Vesalius. It contains sections on anatomy and physiology, generation, ‘‘ de hominis procreatione,”’ followed by a general section on pathology and methods of treatment. Forestus was a Dutch physician educated in Italy. Later on he prac- tised at Delft. Raphelengius married the elder Plautins’ daughters, and was printer for a while to the University of Leyden. Paper rather brown. A very rare early book on venereal disease. camerino artium et medicine professorem. Lyons, F. Fradin, 1505 £7 7s 8vo. Old binding covered with a fragment of MS. vellum, leather ties. Gothic letter, capital spaces. Uncommon edition of this medical treatise in verse, with commentary. The author, Gilles de Corbiel, Canon of Paris and physician to Philippe Auguste of France (1165-1213), based his poems on the pulse and the urine upon the Byzantine treatises of Theophilus Protospatharius, Captain of the Guard to the Emperor Heraclius (603-641)— these for tenturies upheld the Galenic doctrine Human Teeth, including a particular eluci- dation of the changes which take place during the second dentition and describing the proper mode of treatment to prevent irregularities of the teeth.
