![RlilFUSE CQLIJ]CTION /^IDDISPOS/i (cont' d) /J.1 domestic refuse is disposed of by pulverisation at the ne\\r plant \viiicli came into operation in June, 1971, This plant is a joint venture by the Abergavenny Borough Council, Crickhowell Riural District Council, and this Council, and is the first of its kind in South b'ales. Bulky and other items which cannot be pulverised are disposed of by burying on the tip, b'ith the increase in the number of such articles this is becoming a serious problem as far as tip control is concerned. Crushing, to reduce buUc, and the separation and removal of metal vri.ll need to be carried out in future. Litter Collection and Street Cleaning, The sweeping of trunlc road laybys and the emptying of litter bins is carried out by this Council as agents for the Monmouthshire County Council, These two tasks cxre now carried out together and a considerable improvement on the laybys has been effected. Road sweeping is carried out in U villages using part-time employees. Tills is a most effective service, greatly appreciated by the local communities, which vrauld be extended to cover three more villages if additional suitable part-time read sweepers could be recruited. - 20 -](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b2882314x_0043.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
