    REPORT, &c. In our last Report, we had to commemorate a new era in the formation of the Committee of Management under which the affairs of the Dispensary are now conducted, and to express our gratification at the great progress then made in the organization and efficiency of the Institution. This, the seventh year of its existence, has been even more eventful; and from circum¬ stances, not certainly unanticipated, but perhaps under-estimated by many of us, the Edinburgh Homoeopathic Dispensary has at¬ tained a position of public influence and estimation to which the most sanguine of its supporters would a few years ago have deemed it rash to look forward. It is extremely satisfactory that this should not have been the result of any fortuitous event, but the foretold consequence of public experience of the effi¬ ciency of the Homoeopathic system of treatment when applied to that disease which has scourged so many of the cities of Europe, and brought death into so many of our own families. While it was yet in the distance, but believed to be certainly approaching, your Committee had expressed their anxious wish “ to have the public support in applying that system of cure to a disease, in which, by very ample and accurate statistics obtained in other countries, it has shewn an amount of success so far exceeding that of any other system and when it was announced to be among us, steps were instantly taken, with the cordial and zeal¬ ous co-operation of your Medical Officers, to bring what relief could be brought to the sufferers. It is impossible to doubt that much good has followed these efforts; and it is matter of congratulation and thankfulness to all who have taken any part in them, whether by the contribution of labour or of money, that the success has been all that was to be hoped for.
