I < Worlc done in the Sanitary Branch during 1913. I have the honour to submit the following general survey of the work done by the Sanitary Staff during 1913 :— | ' L jrr l& i,,, ] J j [ Port Louis :—During the course of the year the Sanitary Officers paid 7,936 visits to private premises and lodging houses. Shops, markets, bake¬ houses, slaughter houses and butchers’ shops were inspected on 2,147 occasions and special duties, including the control of the cremations and exhumations carried out, numbered 6,438. The stables, pigsties and cowsheds both in the town and district were the subject, of 1,831 inspections and the performance of the night soil service was specially checked 43 times during the course of the year. | y | ' ^ £» Ilf* ' fv 1 t •*> ^ i r y ... K l’ I r W I __ I Inspections amounting to 1,141 were made of Government Establish¬ ments, public and private gratuitous latrines, noxious factories, camps of labourers, cemeteries, water courses, docks and the foreshores. The waste-lands1 lying in the town and the subdrbs were cleaned of rank vegetation over an extent of 465,499 sq. yards by the labourers of the Sanitary Band. The staff of disinfectors were emlployejd on! quarantine duty on an aggregate of 62 days and the enforcement of the sanitary enactments neces¬ sitated the attendance of the Sanitary Inspectors and guards at the Law Courts on 232 occasions.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b31484025_0016.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
