![Official copy of the trial of Assistant Surgeon Warren Webster, United States army, for the use of United States Senate. J. HOLT, Judge Advocate General. Proceedings of a general court-martial convened at New York city by virtue of the following order, viz: Special Orders, ) Headquarters Department of the East, No. 118. ] New York City, December 7, 1863. A general court-martial is hereby appointed to meet at New York city on the 10th day of December, 1863, at 10 o'clock a. m., or as soon thereafter as practicable, for the trial of such persons as may be brought before it by authority from these headquarters. Detail for the court: Major F. T. Dent, 4th United States infantry. Captain William Clinton, 10th United States infantry. Captain David P. Hancock, 7th United States infantry. Captain Wright Rives, additional aide-de-camp. Thomas Lord, jr., aide-de-camp. First Lieutenant Samuel T. Crowley, 4th United States infantry. First Lieutenant Clarence M. Bailey, 6th United States infantry. Captain Royal T. Frank, 8th United States infantry, judge advocate. No others officers than those named can be assembled without manifest injury to the service. Should any of the officers named in the detail be unable to attend, the court will, nevertheless, proceed to and continue the business before it, provided the number present be not less than the minimum prescribed by law. The court met pursuant to the above orders, which having been read by the judge advocate, and the roll called, the following members were present: Major F. T. Dent, 4th United States infantry. Captain William Clinton, 10th United States infantry. Captain David P. Hancock, 7th United States infantry. First Lieutenant Samuel T. Crowley, 4th United States infantry. Captain Thomas Lord, aide-de-camp. The judge advocate here applied to the court for authority to employ a recording clerk, at one dollar per day, which was granted. The case of Assistant Surgeon Warren Webster not being prepared for trial, the court adjourned to meet on Wednesday, the 16th instant, at 10£ o'clock a. m. R. T.
