    Ward's Improved Method of Changing Smoke, c$c. into various Useful Materials. tlie size, number, and construction of the condensing vessells must depend upon tlie vapor to be decomposed, as some vapors are more difficult to condense than others, and therefore require a longer process. The apparatus being thus fixed, the substances to yield the smoke or vapor are to be set on fire under 5 the chimney or chimneys, and the machine or machines set in motion by either steam engine, water, or horse wheel, &c. The vapour will be drawn from the fires by the action of the machine, and made to pass through the condensing vessells to be decomposed. There must be apertures at the end of the condensing vessells, if the pumping machine is placed between them 10 and the chimney, to open and shut for the purpose of giving vent to the incon¬ densible airs which will combine with the vapors in burning, and pass with them through the apparatus; if the machine is placed behind the vessells, there will be no occasion for those apertures. 15 In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this Thirteenth day of April, in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and ninety-two. And also the Specification aforesaid was stampt according to the tenor of the Statutes made for that purpose.
