The systematic name of the leek fern, or black maiden-hair; used as astringent and pectoral. Asplenium Cet'erach. Bot., Med. The system- atic.name of the herb spleeu-wort, or milt- waste ; a small bushy plant, growing on old walls and rocks; it has a mucilaginous, rough taste, and has been recommended in diseases of the chest and in nephritic and calculous comjilaints; also called iJ/ec/MMure squamosum., Ceterach officinalis, Doradilla, Lonchitis. Asplenium Hemionitis, Bot. The systematic name for the plant mule's fern; used like the Scolopendrium vulgare as demulcent and pectoi-al, etc. Asplenium Murale. Bot. The systematic name for the plant wall-rue, or tent-wort; it has nearly tlie same qualities as the A. adian- thum nil/rum, and has by some been sup- posed specific in the ciu-e of ulcers of the lungs, in the form of decoction ; also called Adianthum album, Asplenium ruta muraria, Rata 7nuraria, and Salvia vitce. Asplenium Officinarum. Bot. Another name for the Asplenium ceterach. Asplenium Riita Muraria. Bot. Another name for the Aspleiiiufu murale. Asplenium Scolopen'drium. Bot. A name for the plant otherwise called Scolopendrium vulgare. Asplenium Tricho'manes. Bot. The systematic name of the plant common maidenliair, or spleenwort; its leaves have a mucilaginous, subastringent taste, sweetish, but without any particular flavoxir, and are esteemed expectorant and deobstrueut. See Calli- phyllum. Aspredo, Inis, f. {Asper, rough.) Pathol. An old tenn, Gr. syn. Tpdxoofia, used by Galen, in Def. Med. for a hardness and unequal roughness between the eyelids; the same as Trachoma. Asprel'ia, cE, f. {Asper, rongh.) Bot.
