Antimon'ie. {Antimdnium, antimony; termi- nal -ic.) Of or belonging to antimony ; ap- plied to an acid obtained by digesting me- tallic antimony in strong nitric acid. A)tti- md)ttcus, a, um. Fr. anal, antimoniquc, iidj. Antimon'ie Acid. Chem. Tenu for a substance, othei'wise called peroxide of antimony, ob- tained as a white hydrate, either by digesting the metal in strong nitric acid, or by dis- solving it in nitro-mmiatic acid, ooncenti'at- ing by heat to expel excess of acid, and throwing the solution into water. Chem. Of or belonging to antimony ; applied to an acid obtained by digesting white metallic antimony in strong nitric acid. Anttrndniosus, a, um. See An- timonious Acid. Diss, div.i. s. vi. Fr. aual. antimonieux, adj. Antimon'ious A'cid. Chem. By digesting white metallic antimony in strong nitric acid, tire metal is oxidised at the expense of the add, and a white hydrate of the peroxide is fonned ; on exposing which to a red heat, it gives out water and oxygen gas and is converted into antimonious acid. Fr. anal. acide antimonieux. Germ. syn. antimonije Sciure, f. Antimon'ite. {AntimoniOsxi,m acidum, Antimo- nious acid; terminal-ite.) Chem.
