From each side is a branch arm fitted with shelves and carved in scrollwork with dragon panels. These arms are supported by A PAIR OF BEAUTI- FULLY CARVED BOX SETTLES en suite with carved exotic bird backs and dragon panels, dragon arms and mask feet, Each Settle is fitted with an upholstered seat cushion. containing to the upper portion a pair of double-door cupboards, to the centre a single double-door cupboard and below two cupboards and four drawers. The whole is sur- mounted by a pagoda-shaped pediment, carved with the representation of two warlike figures guarding a collection of musical instruments. The under portion of the pagoda is squared, the partitions being carried out in chiselled red and black lacquer flower motifs. The door and drawer fronts and the back panels are beautifully worked in gold lacquer, relieved by ivory and mother 0’ pear] flowers, flower clusters and birds in high relief. The whole stands upon a base vigorously carved in flower and mask design with Corean dog supports and dragon panels. frame and modern underdamper action. The case is of carved blackwood, carried out in panels of flowers, exotic birds and dragon designs.
