![Female staff 8. The North-Western treatment of measles and of whooping cough has involved a Hospitals. considerable addition to the number of nurses required, and the granting by the Board of additional leave to all nurses has also necessitated the employment of more staff, for whom proper accommodation must be provided. To this end, approval was obtained to the erection of a new nursing staff block at each of these hospitals. Joyce Green 9. Upon this hospital becoming utilised almost to its fullest Hospital. (a) Classes in fevers.—Courses of instruction were attended instruction. during the year by 290 students, of whom 20 were women. The number in 1913 was 286, of whom 21 were women. The morning classes at certain hospitals were continued. (b) Classes in hospital administration. D.P.H.—36 duly qualified medical practitioners (including one woman) have attended classes in hospital adminis¬ tration as candidates for the Diploma in Public Health. The number for the previous year was 72 (including two women). North-Eastern 11. Approval was given to the reconstruction of the temporary Hospital. Authority was given for the overhauling of the tramway system Tramways. at the River Hospitals and the execution of certain repairs which the Engineer-in-Chief considered essential; also for the laying of a connecting line between the Joyce Green and Orchard Hospital systems. South Wharf. 13. This subject, to which we made reference in our annual Accumulation report for 1911, again occupied our attention towards the close of mud. of the year, when we decided to advise the Managers to accept an offer to remove a large quantity of mud from the bed of the River Thames in the vicinity of the wharf, so that the ambulance steamers could be brought to or removed from the wharf without difficulty, and possible damage, at all states of the tide. Works. 14. The following is a list of additional principal works which were sanctioned by the Managers at our instance during the year, the estimated cost being shown in each case : — Eastern Hospital—Alterations to internal telephone system £200 Eastern Hospital—Alterations to meat store, vegetable scullery and milk store. £480 South-Western Hospital—Alterations to sick staff rooms ... £328 Southern (Lower) Hospital—Installation of underground system of fire alarms and telephones ... ... ... <£625 Joyce Green Hospital—Additional kitchen equipment ... £830 staff- 15.
