![AN ANALYSIS OF i'E HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SIX CASES OF PHTHISIS. By ARTHUR REARED, L.R.C.P., M.R.I.A., Late Physician to the British Civil Hospital at Smyrna, etc. TProm the Medical Times and Gazette, October 11, 1856.] EE following results are derived from 136 cases of phthisis, eerved at the Royal Infirmary for Diseases of the Chest; yy occurred in a total number of 644, chiefly out-patients, toitted under my care (a), a large proportion of these eases iig assignaole to other diseases of the respiratory organs, aiases of the heart, dyspepsia, etc. as well as to a class of Ks to be found at all Institutions for diseases of the chest; &se in which the Physician is obliged to hesitate in his dia- ssis of phthisis, but in which, if he keeps a register, the ilences are sufficient to induce him to enter them as doubt- Whenever, in such instances, I was enabled, as fre- !intly happened, from the progress of the disease, to make wsitive diagnosis, I invariably referred back to the origina ■yy, and altered it accordingly (b). 11 Between May 2nd, 1864, and Feb. 13th, 1855 inclusive. 11 Of these doubtful cases there remained 92 in aU; it would have , exceedingly difficult, if not impossible to ascertain the number of rveries, because out-patients too often discharge themselves by merely T.ng their attendance, but a large proportion of them may be ranked reared.”](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b22317545_0003.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
