The Twrch Trwyth (Perrumpent or Prorumpent Hog) was the son of King Tarecld (i. e. the Pervader), and his name was famous in British mythology. See E. Llwyd Cornish Grammar p. 236. and the Mabinogi of Kilhwch and 01 wen. lie seems to be called in Cad Goddeu, Baedd Llachar, the Boar Radiance. And he was a being of the power of Fire. When Cynddylan's palace at Pengwern was burnt, it is pro- bable he perished in the fire, and that so much is meant by v. 8 of Llywarch/s Dirge, “ Twrch penetrated through his headwhile the 30tli line “ Twrch will not restore to him the dwelling of his father signified, that Fire will not dis- gorge what it has devoured. Tyllei ylvach Gwryd govurthiach.—■ The bickering chain [of the Twrch] Would pierce the narrow furnace.— Cynvelyn gasnar Ysgwn bryvwn bar, Goborthiad adar.—• Cynvelyn’s wrath Is the exalted supreme fury, The purveyor of birds.— Gorchawn cyrdd ceinmyn Yw gwarchan Cynvelyn. Gorchan Cynvelyn cylchwy wylad. Etwyn gwr gwnedd gwyned y wlad.— The pinnacle of fair-minded songs Is the talisman of Cynvelyn. The enchantment of Cynvelyn is the shield of the festival. The firebrand of the strenuous man whitened the land.— Cein dy anrhudd, ynys gwerth, Rhudd, volaud, medd, meirch. Eithinyn neud gudd blennyd ? Gwarchan Cynvelyn Ar Ododin neus gorug odyn ? Dogyn gymhwylliaid. Y waew drwm oreureid A’m rhodes, poed er lies ym enaid.
