![OUTLINES OF LECTURES ON THE NEUROLOGICAL SYSTEM ANTHROPOLOGY. LECT. I. INTRODUCTORY. Ay life has been devoted to the study of man, his destiny and happiness. Uncontrolled in education, I learned to brook no ntal restraint, and thrown upon my own resources in boyhood, iculties but strengthened the passion for philosophical knowl- ;e. Yet, even more formidable difficulties were found in the ited condition of human science. Anthropology had no systematic developement, and its elemen- ts f sciences were in confusion. Mental philosophy was too li ited in its scope, and had too little of the practical character. I !< lpared the heads of my acquaintance with phrenological draw- ls, and found many striking coincidences — thus was I satisfied I ts substantial truth. ly interest increased with extent of my observations until ibandoned practical medicine for the exclusive study of Penology in the great volume of Nature. It was my object to tact the defects of the system of Gall and Spurzheim. Hence](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b21031897_0055.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
