About this work
Description
A two-part training video for optometrists about how best to work with small children. The first part advises optometrists how to develop a good rapport with children and their parents. Angela Bishop, from the experience of her own practise, offers suggestions on how to change, vary and reorganise an eye test so that maximum information can be obtained while ensuring the optimum co-operation of the child. The second part presents guidelines for assessing the visual health of the small child. It advises on what diseases may be present as well as suggests what to look for as an indication of what diseases or defects are likely to develop, as the child grows older. The importance and implications of family and birth history are discussed as well as criteria for referral. The video concludes with an interview with Dr. David Calver of Guys Hospital, who speaks of his experience of visual disease in children and advises on how to integrate tests with young children into everyday practice.
