![Lor 33—continued. Ruesinger ’ in full. It has been suggested that “ Ja. Ru.” stands for Jacobus Ruesinger (or Riessinger) and the two correctors may have been related. When Sixtus Riessinger went to Naples and started printing on his own account, ‘he continued this practice of printing his name as corrector of the press at the end of colophons in which he had already named havnisele as printer, As regards the date of printing, the book cannot have ten issued from the press till after 31 Mar. 1466, as its editor, Theodorus Lelius, died on that date and an obituary panegyric on him is prefixed to his own preface. This obituary notice is curiously enough printed twice, on folio 14 verso and on folio 20 verso, the eleven intervening pages being all blank, and this attempt to fill up the blank pages would seem to indicate that when the notice was printed the rest of the book had already been set up, which is somewhat impled by the wording of the notice. Even if the book was not sent to the press till after the death of Lelius, Proctor’s verdict that “if printed by Han, the book must certainly be earlier than the Turrecremata (which was dated 31 Dec. 1467) stands, and this is therefore THE FIRST BOOK PRINTED IN Roms and probably the third or fourth printed in Italy, its predecessors being the Cicero, De Oratore, and the Lactantius( and possibly a Donatus) printed at Subiaco in 1465.
