![CHAPTER II. THE FACTORY & WORKSHOP ACT, IQOI. Preamble. Before printing in detail the actnal clauses of the Act dealing ^vith Bakehouses, it may he well to introduce the subject by a brief ])reainble. Bakelionses are either factoiles or worksliops within the meaning of the Act according as mechanical po\\ er is or is not used in aid of the ])rocesses carried on. They are, therefore, snhject to the general pi-ovisions of the Act; and the same powers will be exercised by the Finsbury Borough Council in regard to Bakehouses that are exercised by them in regard to factories and wmrksho])s. A general ])ow'er is also given to the Boi’ongh Council in the case of any Bakehouse ^vhich is in such a state as to be on sanitary grounds unfit for use or occupation ns a Bakehouse to bring the case before a Court of summary jurisdiction ; and the Court may thereupon impose a fine of £2 (if a first offence) or £5 (if a subsequent offence), and, either in addition to or in lieu of imposing a fine, order means to be adopted for the purpose of removing the ground of complaint. I]i addition to the general regulations of the Act, special sanitary regulations for Bakehouses are contained in the Act. These regidations require that— (1) A Bakehouse must not contain or communicate directly with a water closet, earth closet, privy or ashpit ; a cistern snp])lying water to a Bakehouse must be separate from any cisteni snjjplying water to a water closet; and a sewage pipe or <lrain must not have any oi)ening in the bakehouse.
