The ufual method therefore of call¬ ing every obftrudion or abfcefs of thefe parts by the one general name of fiftula iachrymalis, is wrong and apt to mif- Jead. Sometimes this difeafe is produced by a ferous kind of defluxion, by which the membrane of the fac and dud are fo thickned as to prevent or obftrud the paflage of the fluid through them into the nofe$ but the cellular fubftance on the outfide of the fac not being difcaf- ed, there is no appearance of inflamma¬ tion.
