The names of the jury in each hundred, are exprefled after this manner.---“ In Zrepeflau hundredo juraverunt homines, fcilicet Ra-. « dulfus praepofitus hujus hundredi, Willelmus de Caleio, Radulfus ‘¢ de Barentona, Theodbaldus homo Hard, Standard de Havekeftune, «« Godriz de Fulmere, Alvuricus de Treppeflau, Sigar Dapifer, et om- «¢ nes alii Franci et Angli de hundredo juraverunt (4).” Some of the Particulars the jury were charged to inquire of, were thought unneceflary to be inferted in the two volumes, framed out of the Returns; which will account for the different defcriptions different writers give of the contents of this furvey, fome of them fay- ing, it contained an account of every particular the jury were char- ged to enquire of, and others, more correétly, confining it to fuch things only, as were extracted from the returns, and tran{cribed into. the work in queftion. : In the Cotton library, Vitellius C. vii. 13. there isa MS. written on 14 membranes of vellum, on one fide only; which is thus defcribed _ in the catalogue ---** Pars libri cenfualis vocati DomeEs-DAy, conti- “ nens defcriptionem Cantii. Charactere antiquo et semporibus Regis ‘« WY. competente. Mr.Cafley, in the Appendix tothe catalogue of the MSS. in the king’s library, plate 15, hath given a fhort f{pecimen of the character of this MS. and p. 358 he fays, this is one of the rolls out of which pro- bably Deoms-day was made. At the bottom of the firft page of this MS. there is the following note, written in a modern character, through which a line is drawn, « Pars L. Domers-pay.
