Bread. » [ 68 ] He fliould fee that the prifoners wafh them- felves from head to foot, and bathe when di- rected by the Apothecary, and that each pri- foner hath clean ftockings at lead once every week. He fliould fee that there be net towels at each ciftern, to which the folitary prifoners fliould be conducted morning and evening, and to which all other prifoners fliould have conftant refort. He fliould fee that the prifoners regularly attend divine fervice on Sundays and other appointed days, and that they behave them- felves with reverence and decorum. He fliould every morning examine every prifoner as to the cleanlinefs of his perfon *, re- ceive the bread from the baker, weigh it if required by any prifoner, and diftribute it to thofe who fliall appear upon examination clean, and who behave decently. The allowance of bread to each prifoner fhould be one pound and a half per day, unlefs foup is given, in which cafe only three quarters of a pound of bread fliould be al- lowed.
