![Salary. Abfence. Security. Work, [ 86 ] TASKMASTER. By the 31 Geo, III. c. 46, f. 1, the Juftices in Seflions jfhould appoint a Talkmafter, with a falary not exceeding 40I. per annum, and fuch fhare of the prifoners’ earnings as the Juftices fhall from feflions to feftions direCt. He fhould aCt as an afliftant to the Governor in the fafe keeping the prifon ; fhould be mafter of the fchool under the direction of the Chaplain; fhould fuperintend and enforce the labour of the prifoners, and encourage induftry among them. He fhould not abfent himfelf from the prifon without the leave of the Governor, and fhould obey his orders. All Tafkmafters fhould give fecurity for performance of their duty, and are fineable for mifconduCt, in the fame manner as the Keeper of the Houfe of Correction. By 22 Geo.
