No text description is available for this image![Collyrium of Borax. H. of Germ. R. Boracis, 3ss; Sacchari, 3j; Aque Rose, 3 ij. Misce. In Chronic Ophthalmia. Sulphuric Acid. Concentrated, it is a violent caustic; di- luted an astringent and tonic. Its internal use produces also the characteristic effects of retrigerants, such as diminution of heat and thirst. It is employed in typhoid fevers, hemorrhages, colliquative perspira- tions, obstinate diarrhea and scurvy; and as a refrigerant in certain bilious fevers. Externally it is sometimes employed asa caustic, and diluted it is useful as an astrin- gent. Subst. incomp. All the carbonates, nitrates, hydrochlorates, the hydrosulphates, &c. INTERNALLY.—Gut. xij., ad xxvj. in Oij ofa liquid, which should be sweetened. Eau de Rabel, or Alcoholized sulphuric acid P, Djad 3j in Oj ad ij of a proper vehicle. Tinctura aromatica cum acido sulphurico. P. Gut. xv. ad xxx. in a potion. [This is nearly similar to the acid. sulph. arom. of the Edinb. Pharma., or the acid elixir of vitriol.
