    X ii REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF VISITORS. Epiphany Sessions, January 2nd, 1872. The Committee of Visitors of the Devon County Lunatic [; Asylum, in presenting their Annual Deport as required by : Act of Parliament, have much pleasure in being able to state that the condition of the Asylum during the past year has been in all respects satisfactory, and that the health of the Ijpatients (notwithstanding the very crowded state of the tj wards) has been good. There are now in the Asylum 704 patients, of whom 268 are males; and 436 females. The admissions for the past year have been 185—83 males, and 102 females—95 have been discharged and 74 have died; of the total number ; in the Asylum 64 are borough patients. The buildings are in good repair, and much progress has been made during the past year in the removal of theasphalte floors and substitution of timber. The inadequacy of bath accommodation has induced the Committee to consider the plans prepared some time since by their orders, and they have resolved to submit them to the Court at this Sessions, and to ask them for a grant of £600 to enable them to carry out the work. The health and comfort of the patients Tender this absolutely necessary to be accomplished without (further delay. The Committee have also to ask for a grant of d?400 for a new boiler and new heating apparatus in lieu of the old ones {which are worn out. Also for a grant of £200 for completing the farm buildings.
