![AUTHORS, TITLES AND SUBJECTS INDEX. The numerals refer to the pages. The Title-entries are limited to Anonymously-published Books the Authors of which are unknown^ not commonly known or uncertain ; and to Series of Books with a collective name. Quite unimportant anonymous books of which the titles sufficiently indicate their character are not indexed at all, as being more naturally sought under their Subjects. Pseudonyms are cross-referenced. The SCHEME OF ABBREVIATIONS is as follows:— Complete Ideal Specimen .-—Smith, John Essays (two) 750 (763, 790) ; Studies 751 [Art of Writi?2g y^o, On Taste 170]. (1) The word within round brackets immediately following the title [(two)] indicates the number of BOOICS under titles so abridged which occur on the page immediately following [750] ; (2) The first numeral after the title [750] represents the FULLEST or most important entry of that book ; {3) Numerals in round brackets [(763, 790)] represent incidental entries of the entire book. They are occasionally worth turning up, as giving clues to the contents of the book ; (4) Titles and numerals within square brackets [/^r^ fj/* J/Kr/V^X?-780] represent PARTS OF BOOKS ENTERED SEPARATELY. They follow imme- diately after the entire book of which they form part. Aa, J, van der Philos. Schotast, 89. Aachen : Dialect 7:32. Abuasides: Empire of 34t. Abbehusen, Carl Raoiil de Houdenc 765.
