![—_—— - 2148. ~ 9356. 551. R.A.M.C. London District, accommodation required for Personnel. : London 16/2882. The estimated cost of these additions, &c¢. was originally 20,000/., afterwards reduced to 11,6002., and eventually Treasury was asked to sanction the expendi- ture of 3,500/. on the more immediate requirements in 1902-3. Only 860/., however, for repairs to the roofs, was sanctioned, and the balance of the 3,500J, was provided in the Estimates, 1903-4. The Hospital was taken into use on the Ist April 1903, when it was proposed to utilise it for “slight “cases and convalescents from Aldershot, and ** possibly also from the Home District.” D.B.C. now reports that the electric light has broken down, and that he is in receipt of such exten- sive demands for repairs, &c. that an inspection of the Hospital by some members of the A.H.C. is desir- able with a view to determining what repairs are immediately necessary, having regard to the proposal in the Centralisation Report to confine the use of the Hospital hereafter to its approved purpese as a Convalescent Home. The D.G,A.M.S. has ordered the evacuation of the Hospital, in order that the necessary work may not be delayed. It is important to note that all through the papers it has been recognised that the maintenance of this gift would prove costly. 29.11.05. The subjoined statement of probable requirements for R.A.M.C. personnel in the London District was noted. In view of the D.M.Q.’s letter to G.O.C. London District (London 16/2882, 7/12/05) explaining that, when the removal of the Transport Co.’s Head- quarters from Millbank to Kensington has been carried into effect, accommodation will be available in the former barracks, it was agreed that the plans for a R.A.M.C. block should not be proceeded with at present.
