    tlie Homilies of St. Augustine (Add. 29,972) in Merovingian characters, of the 7 th century ; the Moralia of Pope Gregory the Great (Add. 31,031) in the same characters, of the 8th century ; and the series of Visigothic codices (Add. 30,055, 30,844-30,855) ranging from the 9th to the 11th century, and chiefly containing offices and liturgies of the Mozarabic ritual. 3. The most valuable of the Illuminated manuscripts are—the Exultet-roll (Add. 30,337) containing the service for the bene- diction of the Paschal taper, with reversed miniatures, of the 12th century; and the Eationale Divinorum Officiorum of Durandus (Acid. 31,032), from the Didot collection, adorned with initials of the most finished design and execution, of Italian art of the beginning of the 14th century. Another noteworthy volume is a Hymnarium (Add. 30,014) executed at Siena in the year 1415 ; and some good specimens of the French and Flemish schools will be found among the manuscripts (Add. 31,830-31,845) bequeathed to the Museum by Mr. William Burges, A.E.A. 4. The principal collections of State-papers and Correspondence are as follows:— Add. 30,525-30,766. A copy of the large collection of transcripts of state-papers relating to the history of France and other countries of Europe, formed by Antoine de Lomenie, Seigneur de la Ville-aux-Clercs, Secretary of State under Henri IV. and Louis XIII. Correspondence and papers of James Hay, Viscount Doncaster and Earl of Carlisle, chiefly in connexion with his embassies to Germany, France, and Spain, in 1619- 1624. Eg. 2533-2562. Official and private correspondence and papers of Sir Edward Nicholas, Secretary of State to Charles I. and Charles II., together with those of his family; 1560-1722. A large part of the earlier correspondence contains minute in- formation of the movements and intrigues of the Eoyalists during the period of the Commonwealth. Add. 31,244-31,267.
