![POPULATIONS^. Our estimate of the population of the Urban District at the middle of 1 897 based on the assumption that it has continued to increase since the 1891 Census at the same rate as during the preceding decennium amounts to 29,903. If the ordinary increase of births over deaths for the past six years be added to 1891 Census the population would be 28,707. The Death Hate for 1897 was therefore 13-5 ])er thousand. The Birth Rate was 26’5 per thousand. The Zymotic Death Rate was 2‘7 per thousand. The following is a table of vital statistics for the past six years. Year. Births. Deaths from all Causes. PHTHISIS AND OTHER RESPIRATORY DISEASES. The death rate from Phthisis during the past year was under 1 per 10f)0 ; that for other Lung Diseases being L9 per 1000.
