    4 Zymotic Disease. The number of deaths from Zymotic Disease was 202 as compared with 153 in the previous year. The increase was due to measles and whooping cough, these complaints having caused 108 deaths in 1894 as compared with 29 in the previous year. Scarlet Fever 12 deaths as compared with 14 in 1893. Diphtheria 85 ,, ,, 53 „ Small-pox 0 „ „ 5 „ Typhoid Fever 15 „ „ 10 „ Measles 54 ,, „ 19 „ Whooping Cough 54 „ „ 10 „ Diarrhœa32 „ „ 42 „ Scarlet Fever. There were 312 notifications of this disease received during 1894, with 12 deaths, as compared 524 notifications and 14 deaths in 1893. The cases were scattered over the district. The type was as a rule mild. In no case could milk be traced as a source of infection. Diphtheria. There were 172 cases of this disease reported during the year, with 35 deaths, as compared with 219 notifications and 53 deaths in 1893. Very few cases have been reported from the Freehold, Forest-hill, in which part of the district there were so many cases last year. Most of the houses here have been inspected and redrained, and the small number of cases now occurring there is undoubtedly due to this improvement in sanitation. The treatment of diphtheria
