![with these, but shall be contented if those who read this book, who are in a position to do so, are induced by its perusal to take a deeper interest in the wonderful works of Nature, or to adopt a pursuit which, as it must be followed in the open air, is likely to improve their] health and increase their strength, while it may afford them an oppor- tunity, not altogether to be despised, of adding a little to their income. As the contents of this volume have been com- piled from notes and practical experience, names of persons who may be connected with processes and different appliances alluded to are often omitted, not from intention, but from the difficulty of tracing the ideas back to their originators. As it is a work of a practical character, and not a history of the science, I trust that such omissions will not affect its value. All the practical points embodied in this work have been thoroughly tested; and if the simple directions given be faithfully carried out, Bee-keep- ing may be made a pursuit, not only interesting, but highly remunerative.
