    TO THE FIRST EDITION. In the following pages my chief object has been to establish clearly, the distinction between the inflammatory diseases which attack the several coats of the bladder. It has appeared to me impor- tant, that these affections should not be confounded under the general character of inflammation of the bladder, as not only are they distinguished from one another by their symptoms and _ pro- gress, but as each of them requires an essentially different treatment. I have also considered I[rri- tation, Paralysis, and some other disorders of the bladder, as they stand in close connexion with inflammation of this organ. The substance of the chapters on inflammation, formed the subject of the oration delivered this year to the Hunterian Society. London ; March, 1838.
