    Ir was with some hesitation that the Research Council undertook an investigation into the nature of the curri- culum for post-primary pupils in non-secondary courses, since it realised that it was going some little way out of its province. ‘The importance and urgency of the problem nevertheless demanded that the Council, containing as it did representatives of almost all the educational bodies interested, should forthwith make the investiga- tion and publish the results. The special Committee appointed for the purpose decided that an inquiry should be instituted to deter- mine what the various educational subjects could con- tribute to the education of the pupils of the age in question, and to this end the Committee nominated Panels composed of experts in the various subjects and of those conversant with school conditions. To guide these Panels in their deliberations, and to facilitate the co-ordination of their findings, the recently published literature on the subject was reviewed, and a preamble in the following terms was prepared and circulated to the members of all the Panels :— PREAMBLE IssuED TO PANELS. 1, The curriculum should concern itself with pupils who have completed the Primary School Course and are pursuing a three years’ or four years’ Post-primary Course.
