![2. — Stream Pollution.—Kemedial action was taken by one of the Services in the case noted in the last j)ara. of (i) ab<3ve. 3. — Refuse Collection and Disposal. Disposal continues to be by the method of controlled tip])ing. Phis work (Collection and Disposal) is under the sole charge of the Cdiief Sanitary Inspector. Hrieliy, 5298.52 tons of refuse were collected, the cost being £4,821 Is. 8d. (18/ld. per ton) ; cov^ering earth (2560 loads) cost £1,907 15s. 3d. (10/- })er ton). Sanitary Inspection of the Area. -Vour Chief Sanitary Inspector has submitted the* following })articulars of the work of inspection and the n'sults obtained. Inspection has been carried out very elh{'i(uit ly. and the results are satis¬ factory ;— (a) Drainage. Old Houses or Buildings.—^The drainage of 21 houses or buildings was tested. h'ive were found defective, of which 2 were re-laid and 3 repaired. Sixtv-two visits were paid in connection therewith, and 15 tests ap]:»lied. Fifty-three Notices were served in respect of choked drains or piivate sewers. All were complied with. (b) Disinfection. -One hundred and seventy-two houses were disinfected for the following rea.sons :— Notifiable diseases ... ... ... ... 48 ruberculosis ... ... ... ... ... 16 Other infectious diseases ... ... ... 47 \erminous conditions ... ... ... ... 36 ()ther cases ... ... ... ... ... 25 Bedding and otlier articles from 162 Premises passed through the Steam Disinfector. have been Scabies has made large demands on the work disin¬ fection, and the old Ambulance vehicle has lieen in verv regular use for the transport of bedding, etc. Although the latest results of recent research continue to cast doubt as to the value of disinfe.station of bedding, clothing, etc., in the control of Scabies, the experience of your Medical Officer and Nursing Stah in Paignton is that such disinfestation does ap])ear to prevent both recurrence of scabies and its development in contacts living in the same house. (c) Shops and Offices.—Fifty-one shops w^ere inspected under the Shops Act, 1934 (Section 10). No Notices w'ere served. (d) Eradication of Bed Bugs. Infested.
