Description

Transmission electron micrograph of mouse intestine. Many cellular structures are clearly visible including rows of microvilli along the surface of columnar cells. Mitochondria and nuclei are also observed within the cells. The gut is full of microvilli lining its surface to increase surface area and facilitate the absorption of nutrients.
