SPEECH THERAPY Chi'klren found at i)eriodic medical Lnsj^ections to require speech therapy are referred to one of the C'ounty’s speech therapiists. From January, 1955, the ecpiiva'lcnt of 2.7 full-time speech therapists were employed throughout the year and there were 129 children on the waiting list for speech therapy at the end of the year. J'he clini(‘s at Harlhy, Fulford, Howden, Mark'^t Weighton, Norton and Pocklington were closed when Mrs. Souch left the service o£ the County on the 81st October, 1955. The clinic at Withernsea was transferred from the Couneil Buildings to the High School, and new clinics w^re opened at the Longcroft County Secondary School and at the Schooil Clinic, Beverley. Thii*ee hundred and sixty-nine chiklren made 4,857 attendances and in addition 49 children were given individual treatment in their own homes. The types of defect receiving treatment are as foUlows : — Stammer 117 Dyslalia 217 Cleft Palate 17 Cerebral Palsy 8 Other defects 29 Total 388 REPORT OF THE PRINCIPAL SCHOOL DENTAL OFFICER Numericailly the staff reached its highest level since the inception of this dental service, and was maintained at Oine principal dental officer, five whole-time assistant dental officers and three part-time dental officers. Each of the whole-time dental officers carried out their duties in a mobile clinic; Mr. Champlin was responsible for the southern part of the county, Mr. Jones worked the noirth-eastern area and Miss Cripps the south-eastern, while Mr. Gray and Mr. Kelly covered the western side. Messrs. Beddoes and Booth worked two ,sessions in the Beverley Clinic and Mrs. Howard six sessions weekly in the Bridlington Clinic.
