PROVISION OF MILK AND MEALS The numlber of children taking milk in school in October, 1955, was 22,810 or 79.0'5%, cx>mpared with 22,673 or 80.6% in the previO'Uis year. It vras necessary to continue supplies of sterilised milk for one school for which daily deliveries of pasteurised milk could not be arranged. At another (school, witli twelve childlren on roll, the sup])ly of milk tablets during the Summer and recomstituted National Dried Milk dirn’ing the Winter, was arranged owing to the imixDSisibility of obtaining suitalble liquid milk. The supplty of liquid millk from approved sources was arranged^ for ad! othei* 'schools—^94.1% beng pasteurised and 4.4% tuberculin) tested. The number of children taking mealls during the year was 14,525 (50.7%), compared with 13,465 children (48.12%) in the previous year. The increased percentage indicated a return to the dem'and prior 'to the increased charge per meal imposed in /Mardh, 1953. Seven new school canteens were op>ened, including two at new schools. MEDICAL EXAMINATION OF CANDIDATES FOR ADMISSION TO TRAINING COLLEGES, ETC. All candidates for admission to Training Colleges, etc., are ti*equired to undergo aln examination by the School Medical Officer of the larea in which they are resident. Entrants to the teaching profession, other than thoise who have completed an approved course of training, are to 'be examined by the School Medical Office/r of the Local Educatibn Authority by wliom they are appointed.
