    AMERICAN PUBLISHERS' ADYERTISEMENT. The high reputation which this work has so rapidly obtained in this country, has stimulated the publishers to render the present edition in every respect worthy the confidence of the American profession. During its passage through the press the sheets have been submitted to a competent surgeon, with the object of embody- ing in it whatever might be requisite to its improvement. There has been found, however, but little to add; the careful revision and extensive additions of the author having rendered unnecessary most of the notes which were introduced in the former American edition, ?.nd having brought the work thoroughly up to the present condition of European surgery. A few notes and a small number of wood- cuts only have therefore been introduced, elucidating some points of American practice. These additions are enclosed in brackets [ ].
