It affords me the moft fincere pleafure to add, that notwithftanding the occurrence of the perverfc accidents above mentioned, and fome malicious reports in confequence, the practice of vaccine Ino- culation continues to extend throughout this IQand, and that the natives in general, place the mod per- fedt confidence in its efficacy in preventing the fmall pox. In many villages, almoft every perfon fufceptible of infcdlion has been inoculated, and at Hambang- totte, a remote ftation which has little communica- tion with other parts of the Ifland, the fmall pox which prevailed there in Odlober lafl:, has been ba- nifhed from the difirid by the beneficial influence of the Cow-pox inoculation, which laftcircumflance, 1 mud confider as arguing favorably for the fpeedy extirpation of the fmall pox from the Ifland of Cey- lon, and the whole of India.
