Captala Groube brought from Mr. Milne fupplies of vi- rus carefully put up in different ways;—On our re- ceiving it, between 20 and jo fubjeds were inocu- lated with the threads impregnated vdth the virus, in various modes, and by different Surgeons. Only one inftance of fuccefs occurred in all thofc inoculated. Anna Dufthall, the Child of a female fervant belonging to Captain Hardie, was inocula- ted by Dr. Scott on the 14th of June, with many others; Anna was about 3 years of age, healthy, and certainly never had had the fmall pox. She was remarkably good tempered, and to her quiecnefs and patience in fuffering the operation, its fuccefs is in fome meafurc to be attributed. The puftule began to fhow' itlclf about the end of the 3d day, afterwards Ihe had flight fymptoms of fever, and fome degree of fwelling and uneafinefs in the axillary glands: thefe fymptoms gave us hopes, and led us to watch the progrefs of the dif- caie with careful anxiety. On the Sth day, the puflule was of the proper fize, ii was raifed and fir.c, and confided of many cells, which on being punc- tured, gave outa cranfparcnt duid.
