![[ 5° ] repeated dlfappointments we liave at laft through the benevolent attention of Dr. Anderfon at Madras, been fo fortunate as to obtain the reoent matter of the cow-po.x, and that we have thereby been ena- bled to introduce the prad^ice of vaccination into this letclernent. I herewith enclofc the letter,- with whicn 1 was favoured by the Doctor on the fub- je-dl, together with one, which I have received from Captain Anderfon, commander of the fhip Hunter, vvhofe affiduous attention to enfure fuccefs to the important commiffion, with which he was eniruft- cd, in very meritorious. John Norton the boy vaccinated by Captain An- derfon on the i 2th inftant, arrived in Calcutta on the 17th, with fuch evident and decisive marks on his arm of being infeded with the genuine cow- pox, as left no room for doubt or hesitation. As the matter was already ripe for communicating the infedlion, three children born of European parents^ belonging to His Majedy’s loth Regiment, were vaccinated by Mr. William Russell on that day; and on the day following the operation was per- formed on eight others.
