![g'itis, bronchitis, and phthisis, where there is relaxation of the mucous membrane and increased secretion. They not unfrequently relieve the cough and unpleasant sensations, when the narcotics would have no influence. The simpler the agents, the better their influence as a general rule. ]^o. 12—I^. Vinegar of lobelia, fsj., comp. tinct. of lavender, fsij., infusion of chamomile, f^v. M. Use half an ounce with the atomizer every four hours. No. 13.— Tinct. iodine, f^ss.. Rectified spirit, fjiij. Mix. To be used in the same way. Care should be employed at first not to get the inhalation so strong as to produce irritation, and the vapors breathed through a glass funnel prevent soiling the face and clothes. If found beneficial the strength may be grad- ually increased. No. 14.—1^. Tiucturse iodi., min. xxx., aqua calidse, fgiv. Mix. To be cautiously inhaled with a common nhaler. (Tanner.) No. 15.—Olei terebinthinse, f^ij., aquse calidse, svj. Mix. To be employed in the same way in ;ases of chronic bronchitis with excessive secretion. Tanner.) No. 16.—^r. Creosote, min. xxx, aquse, ^iv., tinct. avendulfe comp., f§ij. Mix. May be employed in either way. No. 17. ^. Nitrate of silver, gr, xx., distilled water, |ij. Mix. This should be used with the glass funnel, and its strength carefully proportioned to the suscepti- bility of the patient. No. 18.—^. Permanganate of potash, gr. xv., dis- tilled water, ^iv.
