    Above the upper series of figures on the turrets is a range of small canopied niches filled with figures of angels. 40 Angel, jewelled collar, holding open book. 41 Angel holding open book. 42, Angel with hand upraised. 43 Angel with broken emblem. 44. FIGURES FROM THE REREDOS OF HENRY V’S CHANTRY THE REREDOS OF THE CHANTRY CHAPEL Stretches across the east end and can be seen over the parapets which form the sides of the Chantry as well as from the Chantry itself. The Reredos has seven niches to accommodate large figures and between these are small niches ranged in three tiers to hold figures of Apostles, Prophets, etc. (see photographs B and m) The central large niche is empty, it may have held a representa- tion of the Trinity. Since the Chapel was founded in honour of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and of All Saints, it is natural that this central figure should be flanked by a representation of the Angel Gabriel and the Virgin. England’s patron saint, St. George, is placed in the outside niche to the north and he is balanced by St. Denys, the patron of Henry’s newly acquired kingdom of France, on the south. The other figures are probably national saints, St. Edmund and St. Edward the Confessor. 47 St. George, in plate armour, thrusting spear through the neck of the dragon. 48 St. Edmund crowned and dressed in royal robes, no emblem. 49 The Angel Gabriel, kneeling, hands upraised in blessing. 50 Virgin Mary, with hands crossed on breast.: 51 St. Edward the Confessor, crowned and bearded, an indistinguish- able emblem (a ring?) in left hand. 52 St. Denys, carrying mitred head.
