Biographical note
Marc Quinn (British, born 1964) is a contemporary artist who first came to prominence in the early 1990s. "Marc Quinn makes art about what it is to be a person living in the world – whether it concerns Man’s relationship with nature and how that is mediated by human desire; or what identity and beauty mean and why people are compelled to transform theirs; or representing current, social history in his work."--From artist's website. http://marcquinn.com/
Notes
From the series ‘Chemical Life Support’, the figure of Silvia Petretti has been cast from wax mixed with the very substances on which the subject depends to sustain life. With this series Quinn is exploring the notion of technology’s attempt to keep change induced by illness at bay. Silvia Petretti is HIV positive. The drugs she takes - Sustava Tenofivir, 3TC - offer resistance to her body’s failure to defend itself.
