ALBATEGNI, an Arabic Prince of Batan, in Mesopotamia, was a celebrated Astronomer about the year 880.—He composed a work in Ara» bic, The Science of the Stars, comprising all parts of Astronomy, according to Ptolemy and his own Observations. Translated into Latin by Plato of strations of Regiomontanus. The same reprinted, Bologna, 1645, 4to. with this Author’s Notes. Dr. Halley detected many faults in these editions. Phil. Trans. ALBENAS, Joun, Potvo nv’, a Lawyer and Antiquary, and a native of Nismes; died 1563.—He wrote a Translation of the Latin of Acneas Sylvius’ History of the Taborites of Bohemia; but his most curious work is, History of Nismes. 1557, fol. [lustrated with numerous curious Views and Monuments cut out in wood, being considered as very singular speci- Simple Fracture of the Tibia, in a Pregnant Woman, where the Callus was not formed till after Delivery. Rom. 1602, 4to. Wenice, 1603, 1605, 8vo. Doctor, from his extensive knowledge, was born about the middle of the 12th century. ALBERGOTTI, Francis, an Italian Lawyer, and one of the most learned men of his time, was born at Arezzo, near Florence, in the 14th century; died 1376.—He wrote Concilium Matrimoniale. ALASCO, or Lasco, or Lasx1, Jonny, usually styled the Polish Reformer, a man of high rank and talents, was born, according to Saxius, in 1499; p died 1560. He wrote,—Brevis et Dilucida de Sacramentis Ecclesize Christi Tractatio; in qua fons ipse et ratio totius Sacramentarie Nostri Temporis Controversie, paucis exponitur. ALBERT, Erasmus, a Lutheran Divine, flourished in the middle of the 16th century; died 1553.—He collected from the book written by Al- bizzi, of the Conformities of St. Francis with Jesus Christ, the most re- of the Knights of St. James. 1655, fol. ALAYMO, Marx Anruony, a celebrated Physician of Sicily, was born at Ragalbuto, in the Valley of Demona, 1590; died 1662. ALBERT, pr Srapz, an Abbé of the Cloister of St. Mary, at Stade, in the 13th century. He wrote in Latin,—a Chronicle, from the Creation to the Year 1256; to which Andre Hoier added a Supplement, bringing it down to the Year 1316.
